PART-TIME FARMER (2 POSITIONS AVAILABLE)

ABOUT REAL FOOD CT
Real Food CT is a nonprofit working to strengthen Connecticut’s local food system and expand access to fresh, nutritious food for communities in need. Through community farming, farm partnerships, gleaning, and food rescue, we support local growers while delivering high-quality produce to food pantries and partner organizations across the region.
THE ROLE
We are hiring two part-time farmers to support the operation of our community farm sites throughout the 2026 growing season. This role is ideal for experienced gardeners, farmers, or horticulture professionals who enjoy working independently, value consistency, and are comfortable managing day-to-day farm tasks with weekly guidance and support from our team.
Farmers will be responsible for the core activities that keep our community farms productive, healthy, and well-organized from late spring through fall.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Planting and transplanting crops
- Weeding, mulching, and general field maintenance
- Watering and irrigation oversight
- Harvesting and post-harvest handling
- Seed starting and greenhouse work
- Fertilizing and basic soil health practices
- Pest and disease monitoring and management
- Following weekly crop plans and task lists
- Maintaining clean, organized farm spaces
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience with vegetable production, farming, gardening, or horticulture
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Comfortable following crop plans, instructions, and seasonal priorities
- Physically able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and consistent week to week
- Interest in local food systems, agriculture, and community impact
SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
- Approximately 8–10 hours per week
- Season runs May through October
- Morning hours preferred, with flexibility for the right candidate
- Preference given to candidates able to commit consistently throughout the full season
- Competitive hourly compensation commensurate with experience
