Young Farmer Internship Program

We are looking for leaders interested in farming and food security to help us run both of our farms in Newtown, CT during the 2025 growing season. We will have five set days a week and our interns will be responsible for assisting in all planting, harvesting, garden upkeep, and donation procedures. Experience is welcome but not necessary. ABOUT REAL FOOD CT
Real Food CT is a nonprofit working to improve food access across Connecticut by rescuing surplus produce, growing food at our community farms, and partnering with local farms to deliver fresh, nutritious food to food-insecure families. In 2025, our programs are on track to deliver over 100,000 lbs of fresh food to more than 20 food pantry partners throughout Fairfield and Litchfield Counties.

THE ROLE
We are seeking a reliable, part-time Seasonal Delivery Driver to support our growing food distribution work. This role is essential in ensuring timely pickups from partner farms and on-time deliveries to our food pantry partners. The schedule is Monday through Friday, mornings only (roughly 8am–12pm), with approximately 20 hours per week. The season runs now through the end of November, with lighter winter activity. Occasional scheduling flexibility is helpful for weather-related changes or route adjustments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely operate our delivery vehicle for farm pickups and pantry drop-offs (Danbury to Bridgeport region)
  • Maintain accurate records of pickup/drop-off locations and weights
  • Ensure proper handling of produce and maintain food-safe transport conditions
  • Communicate proactively with RFCT staff
  • Optional: Fill open work hours by helping at our community farms or gleaning trips

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; experience driving delivery vehicles preferred
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and work in varying weather conditions
  • Dependable, self-directed, and comfortable working independently
  • Enthusiastic about food access, farming, and community work

COMPENSATION

  • $22.50 per hour
  • Approx. 20 hours/week, mornings (8am–12pm), Monday through Friday
  • Seasonal position: now through November 2025
