The Real Food Hub - Real Food CT

This summer 2024, we established the Real Food Hub, collaborating with local farmers and community food purchasers of Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven counties.

We provide aggregation, distribution and direct delivery services through the food hub network of farm vendors, food access organizations, emergency assistance programs, and food procurement partners.

Together let’s support Resilient, Equitable, Accessible, and Local (REAL) food systems for producers and consumers.

What is the Real Food Hub?

Real Food CT is a nonprofit farm and Food Hub. We are committed to providing comprehensive resources to support Connecticut farmers and expand access to local food. Connecting our network of farms and food access organizations through the marketplace, the Real Food Hub creates impactful opportunities for local food sourcing. The RFCT hub engages with a wide variety of diverse farming operations and far-reaching food purchasing programs. The Food Hub provides critical infrastructure and services to address systemic food systems gaps, and we continue to invest in the growth and sustainability of our operations to advance Resilient, Equitable, Accessible, and Local (REAL) food systems.

What is the platform used for the Real Food Hub marketplace?

Local Line is an e-commerce platform which provides a digital pipeline seamlessly connecting farms with local food buyers through the Real Food Hub marketplace digital storefront.

What is the timeline for joining the marketplace?

We are currently accepting new farm vendors and local food purchasers to join the Real Food Hub marketplace platform as members.
Membership is free through December 2024.

How many farms and food purchasers are participating on the marketplace platform?

We anticipate the capacity to regularly engage with at least 10 local farms as food hub vendors and 10 community organizations/institutions as food purchasers in our first year of full Food Hub operations, 2024-2025.

What counties are included in the hub program?

Our geographic service area for the Food Hub prioritizes participation by farmers and food purchasers located in Fairfield, New Haven, and Litchfield counties.

What are the expectations of a participating farm?

Farms must uphold best agricultural and food safety practices, including but not limited to having insurance and a farm food safety plan.
