At Real Food CT, we believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy food, and that when a community comes together, we can make a real difference. That’s why we’re excited to announce our partnership with Cub Scouts Pack 270 for a special community food drive taking place on Sunday, November 2nd at Stop & Shop in Newtown, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

This collaborative event will support two Newtown-based food pantries and help further our mission of increasing access to nutritious, locally grown produce for those who need it most.

Educating, Engaging, and Giving Back

As part of their community service initiative, the Cub Scouts will be on-site to talk with shoppers about healthy food access and the importance of supporting our neighbors through donations. They’ll be collecting shelf-stable produce items like apples, onions, and potatoes, as well as preferred canned goods based on direct input from our pantry partners.

Everything collected will be distributed by Cub Scouts Pack 270 and Real Food CT to ensure it reaches local families in need quickly, efficiently, and with care.

“It’s amazing to have community members step up to support our own food banks with this special kind of event,” said Sean Fitzpatrick, Executive Director of Real Food CT. “We’re thrilled to work with Pack 270 and continue growing healthy food access through strong community partnerships.”

A Hands-On Learning Experience for Local Youth

This event is more than just a food drive. It’s also an educational opportunity for the Cub Scouts, who are learning about the five food groups, how nonprofit organizations operate, and the power of civic engagement.

“These young leaders are helping us grow something truly special,” adds Fitzpatrick. “Their enthusiasm and heart for service reflect exactly the kind of community spirit that fuels our work at Real Food CT.”

How You Can Help

We invite our supporters and neighbors to stop by on November 2nd, meet the Scouts, and donate what they can. Whether it’s a bag of potatoes or a few cans of beans, every item makes a difference for local families.

“By collecting donations for our local food pantries, the Scouts are not just earning badges — they’re learning what it means to give back,” said Ashli Newman, Pack 270 committee member. “We hope the community will join us in this spirit of service.”
