PRESS RELEASE. Real Food CT, a nonprofit organization working to end food insecurity in Connecticut, is excited to announce they are opening recruitment for several key positions on their Board of Directors. They are seeking passionate leaders to help execute their strategic plan to scale their sustainable Small Farm Model into underserved communities throughout the state.
Real Food CT’s programs center around getting nutritious food to neighbors in need, and supporting Connecticut’s local food economy. “We believe that a strong and sustainable local food system is essential to ending hunger and ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious food,” shared Executive Director, Sean Fitzpatrick. “Wrapping up our fourth season, we have donated over 75,000 pounds of local produce to hunger relief organizations all across our region.”
In addition to collecting excess produce from local farms, Real Food CT operates two “Giving Gardens” in Newtown, CT. The Giving Gardens have been home to regenerative agriculture practices, 20 Young Farmer Interns, hundreds of volunteers, and a whole lot of heart and spirit. Powered by a CT Department of Agriculture Viability Grant, Real Food CT is developing a Small Farm Model to be replicated in underserved communities , providing green space, farming opportunities, and what they hope to be a revolutionary piece of Connecticut’s local food system.
New Board Members will contribute to the strategic planning for large funding proposals to transform empty lots in underserved communities into working Small Farms. “More than anything, we are looking for team members that share our passion in both service and the belief that everyone should have access to healthy food,” said Executive Director, Sean Fitzpatrick. “We believe this unique approach to hunger relief has the potential to create a sustainable network of fresh produce available for our neighbors that need it most.” New board positions will be voted upon in the first quarter of 2023.
